The country

30 april 2016 - Albany, Australië

After 2,5 months of country life it is time to chase the sun, winter is coming…..

Because it is the country, nothing really exciting happened. But it is a good place to live a stress free life. Although, when you have a black out for 7 hours and you've got your 21st birthday party planned, it can be it bit stressful. It was just an ordinary Saturday afternoon when all of a sudden everything went dark… It wasn't birthday party time yet so all good, but by the time come 7 o'clock is when the stress kicked in. 'Cause what is a party without music and lights?? Well let me tell you what that is. It is a party with a bunch a drunk teenager acting crazy and you can hear every word they say. Sitting up on the balcony and listening to their weird conversations was the best entertainment ever!! I'll spare you do the details but boy was it funny! Number 11 of my last post… And if you have ever tried to cook with candle light, I can now tell you, DON'T!

No matter where in Australia go you, us Dutchies are everywhere!, even in country Australia's The new (South African) doctor came in for a drink and told me his daughter in law is Dutch. What are the odds?! Of course she is a really cool chick.

The first weekend of March is when the town came to life, when the Vulcan riders arrived.. A bad ass wild bunch of motorcycle guys, showing off their bikes. They partied till late at night and woke you up early in the morning, when they went for a ride. Not that you hear me complain.. One of them was kind enough to take me for my first ever motor ride and man what a thrill. I so totally get now why people jump on their bikes as soon as the weather gets better. It is the perfect way of enjoying nature, the road, the weather and life. I even got a little souvenir, a nice exhaust burn on my leg…

I had a month to recover from all of this excitement, first weekend of April was iron man time. The shearers iron man that is, no swimming, cycling or running involved. What do you do, you might ask. Well you eat a cold meat pie, scull a bier, roll a 200kg bale of wool and you shear a sheep. When you are in a team of four, one of you rolls the bale, one eats the pie and drinks the beer, one sheers the sheep and the last person has to wind the clippers for the sheerer. Of you are alone, you do all these things minus the winding.. It may all sound very easy and it is, except for eating that pie. You do not want to eat a cold/ frozen meat pie, so dry and not tasty at all!! Luckily I got to roll the bale of wool, which was peanuts.

In my last country weekend, footy season or sport season was finally here. Which means, it is quiet during the day because everybody is out either playing or supporting the local footy, hockey or netball team. The footy team ended up winning the game and that called for celebrations. A perfect way to end my 2,5 months in the country. However I know now that this isn't for me. Too far away from everything and everybody. Back to the city and the beach it is!!! Going up north to chase the sun. Oh and if you are from overseas mozzies love you!! Got 52 bites in one night…. Not cool, not cool!

That's all for this time,

Seabert
